NTL GIRLS SOCCER: WALKER NAMED 'OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF YEAR;' FOUR ATHENS TEAMMATES EARN ALL-STAR HONORS (2021-11-02)
Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY - Athens senior Hannah Walker was named the NTL's "
Offensive Player of the Year," and four of her teammates were voted all-stars - three first-team, and one second-team - in recent voting by the league's coaches.
Senior Caydence Macik, junior Alli Thoman, and freshman Addison Wheeler were first-team selections, and junior Taegan Williams earned second-team honors.
Ultra-athletic and a fiery and physical competitor, Walker scored 18 goals on the season, and doled out 16 assists.
Troy's Emmi Ward was voted the NTL "Player of the Year," and the league all-state selection, and Towanda's Porschia Bennett was tabbed as the "Defensive Player of the Year."
The 2021 NTL girls soccer all-stars are as follows:
FIRST TEAM
Forwards
Alli Thoman, junior, Athens: Athletic with a high soccer IQ, Thoman scored nine goals and dished out six assists on the season.
The other first-team selections are Troy's Addison Parker (25 goals and six assists), and Wyalusing's Olivia Haley (23G, 11A), and Olivia Spencer (12G, 6 A).
Midfielders
Hannah Walker, senior, Athens: See above.
Addison Wheeler, freshman, Athens: Athletic, physical, and seasoned beyond her years, Wheeler scored seven goals and dished out five assists.
The other first-team selections are Troy's Caelyn Pine (10G, 5 A), Wyalusing's Layla Botts (23G, 15A), and Troy's Camille McRoberts (9G, 4 A).
Defense
Caydence Macik, senior, Athens: Physical and athletic with good size, Macik returned after a year away from the program and anchored the Lady Wildcat defense.
The other first-team selections are Troy's Emmi Ward and Grace Sherman, and Towanda's Porschia Bennett.
GoalkeeperWyalusing's Pearl O'Connor.
SECOND TEAM
ForwardsThe second-team selections are NEB's Kayleigh Thomas (7G, 4A) and Melanie Shumway (9G, 4A), and Williamson's Ruby Sherman (4G, 7A) and Chelsea Hungerford (3G, 8A).
MidfieldersThe second-team selections are NEB's Kerra Thoman (6G, 4A), Towanda's Anna Dunn (5G), Troy's Annelids Getola (2G, 3A), Williamson's Jade Caldwell (5G, 3A), and Mansfield's Madalyn Morgan (1G).
DefenseTaegan Williams, junior, Athens: A fierce competitor, Williams was a key component in the Athens defense.
The other second-team selections are Wyalusing's Marissa Johnson, NEB's Myyayla Post and Maggie Neuber, and Williamson's Maddy Millard.
