COLLEGE WRESTLING: ATHENS GRAD WINTERS PINS WAY TO TITLE AT McGINLEY INVITATIONAL; ATHENS GRAD HORTON FINISHES SECOND (2021-11-07)

WILKES-BARRE - Athens grad Kaidon Winters, a senior on the RIT wrestling team, registered five pins on his way to a 5-0 record and the 157-pound title here Saturday at the Ned McGinley Invitational, while Athens grad Chris Horton finished second at 141 pounds.

Winters, who already holds the RIT records for career falls and falls in a single season, spent just 7 minutes and 51 seconds on the mat on his way to a title.

Winters pinned Roger Williams' Kevin Luker in 1:15, then decked NYU's Maximus Parra in 11 seconds, and Cortland's Chandler Merwin in 2:05 to advance to the semifinals, where he pinned Scranton's Daniel Kosinski in 2:06.

In the finals, Winters pinned Cortland's James Udasco in 2:14.

Horton went 4-1 in the 141-pound weight class. Among his wins, he pinned Wilkes' Max Shaffer in 4:15, scored a 12-2 major decision over Kings' Noah Clawson, and earned a hard-fought, 5-3, win over Delaware Valley's Russell Benson.

RIT captured the team title with 112 points, besting runner-up Averett University by seven points.

RIT returns to action Sunday, Nov. 14 at the Ohio Intercollegiate Open in Cleveland.
