THE WEEK AHEAD: TIOGA FOOTBALL ONLY VALLEY TEAM STILL IN ACTION; SEVERAL OTHERS IN SURROUNDING AREAS VYING FOR STATE TITLES (2021-11-14)

THE VALLEY - There's just one event involving a Valley team this week as Tioga football looks to win its ninth Regional championship in 10 years, but there are several other teams and individuals from surrounding areas in action this week.

Tioga, 9-0 and ranked No. 1 in the state in Class D, will "host" Section III champ Dolgeville, 10-0 and ranked No. 5 in the state, Friday at 5 p.m. at Vestal High School.

On Tuesday, Canton (17-3) will square off with Sacred Heart Academy (18-7) at 6 p.m. at Hazleton High School in the PIAA, Class AA semifinals. If Canton wins they'll play in the state finals on Saturday, 10:30 a.m. at Cumberland Valley.

On Friday, SVEC, now 8-0 and ranked No. 2 in the state in 8-man football, will "host" Section IX champ Spackenkill at 7 p.m. at Binghamton High School in the Regional Championship game.

Friday morning, Ithaca College plays host to the New York State Swimming & Diving Championships, which features swimmers from Corning, and divers from Owego, Horsesheads, and Elmira.

On Saturday, Canton (12-0) will host Steelton-Highspire (7-2) at 3 p.m. at Towanda's Endless Mountains Sports Complex in the opening round of the PIAA Class A playoffs.

Also on Saturday, Candor will be in action in the New York State Class D semi-final pool play. Candor will square off with Galway, Pavilion, and Mount Academy. The top two teams in pool play advance to Sunday's finals.

Saturday night, Corning (8-1) will "host" Cicero-North Syracuse (8-2) in the Class AA football quarterfinals at Vestal High School. Game time is 6 p.m.
