COLLEGE WRESTLING: ATHENS GRAD COURTNEY HELPS VIRGINIA TO ANOTHER WIN (2021-11-15)

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Athens grad Brian Courtney, a grad student on the Virginia wrestling team, earned hard-fought win over Maryland's King Sandoval in the Cavaliers' 24-9 win here Friday night.

After a scoreless first period, Sandoval scored a takedown early in the second period, but Courtney, ranked 16th in the nation at 133 pounds, countered with a quick escape and followed with a takedown to take a 3-2 lead.

Courtney then rode Sandoval for the entire third period, and tacked on the riding-time point for a 4-2 win, and improve to 2-0 on the season.

Virginia, now 2-0, hosts Campbell University Saturday.
