COLLEGE WRESTLING: ATHENS GRAD WINTERS, TIOGA GRAD LAMB WIN TITLES AT NY STATE COLLEGIATE CHAMPIONSHIPS (2021-11-20)

ITAHCA "” Athens grad Kaidon Winters, a senior on the RIT wrestling team, and Tioga grad Austin Lamb, a junior, won titles here Saturday at the New York State Collegiate Championships at Ithaca College.

Winters, ranked No. 1 in the nation at 157 pounds, pinned his way to the title, starting off with a pair of first-period pins.

Winters, the top seed, pinned Ithaca Colege's Adrain Rosario-Beato in 2:15 in the opening round, and followed it up with a fall of 2:42 over Brockport's Max Yahre in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Winters pinned fifth-seeded Wenchard Pierre-Louis of Ithaca College in 5:18.

Winters pinned third-seeded Chandler Merwin of Cortland in 6:10 in the finals.

Lamb, the fourth seed at 165 pounds, also went 4-0, starting off the day with a pair of quick pins.

In the opening round, Lamb decked Alfred State's Ben Trautwein in 36 seconds, then decked Cortland's Steven Gazillo, the fifth seed, in 33 seconds.

In the semifinals, Lamb forged a 6-2 decision over top-seeded Tyler Brazinski of Oneonta State.

Lamb received a medical forfeit from second-seeded Jackson Gray of Ithaca in the finals.

The RIT wrestlers return to action when the Tigers host the RIT Invitational Dec. 4.
