IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: WAVERLY'S KELLY GLAD TO HAVE JV TEAM BACK IN ACTION (14 PHOTOS) (2021-11-22)

Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY "" Waverly girls basketball coach Bob Kelly is glad to be back on the court, but he's even happier to have his JV program back in action for the 2021-22 season.

"It feels good to be back on the court. I'm excited and ready to go," he said. "I hope we're looking at a more normal season, that's the plan anyway."

The Lady Wolverines were forced to go without a JV program during the truncated spring season due to a lack of of numbers, but that problem appears to be in the rear-view mirror.

"Our varsity numbers are kind of low at eight, but our JV numbers are good at 11," said Kelly.

"Having the JV team back is extremely important," noted Kelly. "It's been a struggle. There are kids walking around in these hallways that don't want to play.

"Honestly, I think it's the specialization, and travel (sports) that's killing high school sports," he added.

Kelly said his team had a strong summer.

"I thought we had a very good offseason. We did very well, and that's usually a good indicator as we move forward.

"Let's hope we can keep working hard, and keep getting ourselves in shape and ready to compete," said Kelly.

Waverly will scrimmage Corning Wednesday morning and Candor Saturday - both at home.

The Lady Wolverines open the season Dec. 3 when it hosts Elmira.
