IAC GIRLS SOCCER: WAVERLY LANDS SIX DIVISIONAL ALL-STARS (3 PHOTOS) (2021-11-26)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY "” Waverly landed six players on the IAC South Large School Division girls soccer all-star teams, including a trio of first-team selections, in recent voting by the division's coaches.
Senior Bella Romano, junior Kennedy Westbrook, and sophomore Lea VanAllen were first-team selections, while sophomore Paige Robinson, freshman Lea Cole, and 8th-grader Claire Clonch were second-team picks.
Notre Dame junior goal keeper Shannon Maloney is the IAC South Large School MVP.
FIRST TEAM
Forwards
Lea VanAllen, sophomore, Waverly: A true finisher, VanAllen scored 12 goals and dished out five assists. She had two hat tricks on the season.
The other first-team forward is Notre Dame senior Rachel Simpson.
Midfielders
Kennedy Westbrook, junior, Waverly: A fast and versatile player, Westbrook scored 14 goals and eight assists, She scored at least one goal in every game Waverly won this season.
The other first-team midfielders are Notre Dame junior Leila Vargas and freshman Makenna Keogh, and Newark Valley junior Emma Miller.
Defense
Bella Romano, senior, Waverly: A heady and determined player, Romano started every game in the final two season of her four-year varsity career.
The other first-team midfielders are Notre Dame senior Amanda Simpson and junior Ella Chicone, and Newark Valley junior Hayley Beebe.
KeeperThe first-team goal keeper is SVEC junior Kara Morse.
SECOND TEAM
ForwardsThe second-team forwards are Notre Dame junior Ava Mustico and Newark Valley junior Isabella Shiel.
Midfielders
Paige Robinson, sophomore, Waverly: Versatile, physical and unselfish, Robinson scored two goals and dished out five assists on the season.
The other second team midfielders are: Newark Valley senior Anna-Leona Kalin, SVEC senior Bri Schweiger, and Notre Dame 7th-grader Mary Young.
Defense
Claire Clonch, 8th-grader, Waverly: A patient player with a good soccer IQ, Clonch scored one goal and dished out two assists in her first varsity season.
The other second-team selections are Newark Valley senior Molly McCloskey, Notre Dame junior Isabella Griffen and Eleanor Green.
Goalkeeper
Lea Cole, freshman, Waverly: A heady keeper with good instincts, Cole recorded 103 saves in her first varsity season.
