THE VALLEY "" A skilled all-around player, Athens senior Hannah Walker is the 2021 Valley Sports Report girls soccer "Player of the Year."

Waverly junior Kennedy Westbrook is the "Defensive Player of the Year," while Athens freshman Addison Wheeler is the "Newcomer of the Year," Tioga senior Gabby Foley is the "Keeper of the Year," and Waverly's Tara Hogan is the "Coach of the Year."

A fiery and physical competitor, the ultra-athletic Walker, who is also the "Offensive Player of the Year," made everyone around her better. She scored 18 goals and dished out 16 assists on the season.

A versatile performer with a strong leg, Westbrook was a shut-down defender for the Lady Wolverines at stopper. She was able to move up field frequently, and saw some action in the offensive end. She scored 14 goals and dished out eight assists on the season.

Wheeler made an instant impact in the midfield this season for the Lady Wildcats with a physical presence and a soccer IQ well beyond her years. She had seven goals and five assists.

Foley, who often resembled a target at a carnival shooting gallery, was an athletic and determined presence in net for the Lady Tigers. She registered 201 saves in 12 games.

Hogan directed a young Waverly team to a 10-3-3 record and an appearance in the Section IV, Class B semifinals. The losses came to Notre Dame, which reached the Class C state semis, Chenango Valley, which reached the Class B quarterfinals, and Athens, which reached the District 4, Class AAA semifinals.

Lea VanAllen, sophomore, Waverly: Fast and a proven finisher, VanAllen finished the season with 12 goals and five assists.

Alli Thoman, junior, Athens: Smart and athletic, Thomas was a force up front for the Lady Wildcats. She finished the season with nine goals and six assists.

Caydence Macik, senior, Athens:
Physical and athletic with good size, Macik returned after a year away from the program and anchored the Lady Wildcat defense.

Bella Romano, senior, Waverly: A heady and determined player, Romano was one of he most improved players in the region over the last two seasons.

Addison Wheeler, freshman, Athens: See above.

Sophia Haney, 8th-grader, Tioga: A skilled all-around player, Haney scored three goals and dished out three assists before suffering a season-ending injury midway through the season.

Erica Bradley, freshman, Tioga: A strong defender, Bradley scored two goals this season.

Claire Clonch, 8th-grader:
A versatile young player, Clonch had one goal and two assists this season.

Lea Cole, freshman, Waverly: Athletic and instinctual, Cole was impressive in her first season in net. She registered 103 saves.
