VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: TIOGA'S WOOD ALL-VALLEY FOOTBALL 'PLAYER OF YEAR;' TIOGA'S PETERSON, BELLIS, AIELLO, AND WAVERLY'S TOMASSO, BEEMAN EARN OTHER TOP HONORS (December 4, 2021)

Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY "" Tioga won the second state title in program history, and Waverly enjoyed a historic season. The two teams dominate the 2021 Valley Sports Report All-Valley football team, which is headlined by Tioga senior Emmett Wood as the "Player of the Year."

Waverly sophomore QB Joey Tomasso is the "Offensive Player of the Year," while Tioga senior linebacker Issac Peterson is the "Defensive Player of the Year," Waverly junior Ty Beeman is the "Lineman of the Year," Tioga sophomore QB Caden Bellis is the "Newcomer of the Year," and Tioga's Nick Aiello is the "Coach of the Year."

Wood, three-time VSR "Player of the Year," capped a brilliant four-year career at Tioga with 2,135 yards and 34 TDs on 181 carries (11.8 yards per carry). In five postseason games, Wood rushed for 1,036 yards and 16 TDs on 107 carries.

He also had five receptions for 56 yards, and five two-point conversion runs.

Defensively, Wood had 42 tackles, including 11 solo stops, four tackles-for-losses, and three QB sacks. He also had two interceptions, both of which he returned for touchdowns.

Tomasso became a dangerous dual-threat at quarterback this season.

Tomasso completed 54.6 percent (149 of 273) of his passes for 1,847 yards and 18 TDs, while being intercepted just five times. He also led the Wolverines with 552 rushing yards and 13 TDs on 86 carries (6.4 yards per carry.)

A punishing hitter with a nose for the ball, Peterson led Tioga with 102 tackles, including 26 solo stops, and three QB sacks. He also had five tackles-for-losses.

Beeman was an integral piece on both sides of the ball for the Wolverines this fall. He was part of an offensive line that helped the Wolverines to 143 yards per game on the ground, and allowed just a handful of sacks.

Defensively, Beeman recorded 142 tackles, including 28 solo stops, and one QB sack.

Bellis ran for 708 yards and 10 TDs on just 58 carries this season, an average of 12.2 yards per carry. He also completed 37 of 68 passes (54.4 percent) for 1,007 yards and 15 TDs, while being intercepted just once.

In the state championship game, he ran for a 75-yard TD, and completed 5 of 8 passes for 98 yards and one TD.

Defensively, Bellis had 21 tackles, including 12 solo stops, and three tackles-for-losses in limited action. He also had two interceptions.

Aiello coached the Tigers to a 12-0 season - the first unbeaten season in his career. He has amassed a 108-23 record in 12 seasons, and has won nine Section IV titles, to go along with his two state titles.

The Tigers outscored their opponents by an average of 47 to 8.4 points per game, including a 42-6 margin in the three state playoff games.

Emmett Wood, senior, Tioga:

Gavin Godfrey, senior, Tioga: Godfrey became a force for the Tigers in his senior season.

Offensively, he rushed for 897 yards and nine TDs, and caught six passes for 201 yards and three TDs, and was a devastating blocker in front of Wood.

Defensively, Godfrey, a punishing hitter, had 61 tackles, including 30 solo stops, and one tackles-for-loss. He also had one interception and one forced fumble.

Karter Rude, senior Athens:
A force on both sides of the field, Rude hauled in a team-high 39 receptions for 663 yards and six TDs.

Defensively, Rude had 73 tackles, including 46 solo stops, to go along with two forced fumbles, two interceptions, and seven pass break-ups.

Shayne Reid, senior, Athens:
A tremendous two-way player, Reid rushed for 1,037 yards and nine TDs on 142 carries (7.3 yards per carry), while hauling in 24 catches for 411 yards and four TDs.

Defensively, Reid had 47 tackles, including 31 solo stops, to go along with two interceptions and three pass break-ups.

Joey Tomasso, sophomore, Waverly:

Ty Beeman, senior, Waverly: See above.

Brayden Horton, senior Sayre: Offensively, Horton completed 58.4 percent (118 of 202) of his passes for 1,556 yards and 13 TDs, and was picked off 12 times. He also led the Redskins with 619 rushing yards and 11 TDs on 101 carries (6.1 yards per carry).

In limited time on defense, Horton had two interceptions.

WR: Lucas Horton, junior, Sayre: A speedy receiver with good hands, Horton hauled in 32 receptions for 515 yards and six TDs.

WR: Jay Pipher sophomore, Waverly: A speed merchant and elusive runner, Pipher had 42 receptions for 666 yards and six TDs, as well as 118 rushing yard and one TD on 18 carries.

Tight End
TE: Cobe Whitmore, senior, Tioga:
A good blocker for a team that made its bones in the running game, Whitmore led the Tigers with nine catches for 152 yards and three TDs.

Accurate with a strong leg, Clark connected on 35 of 42 extra-point attempts. He was 4-for-4 on field goals attempts, with a long of 37 yards.

DEFENSE
Defensive Line
Matt Watson, senior, Tioga:
Very fast and athletic, Watson had 26 tackles, including 10 solo stops, two tackles-for-losses, and two QB sacks. He had one interception, one forced fumble, and batted down eight passes at the line-of-scrimmage.

Ty Beeman, senior, Waverly:

Tyler Talada, senior, Waverly: A terror on the edge, Talada had 45 tackles, including 31 solo stops, and one QB sack.

Troy Pritchard, senior, Athens:
Strong and athletic, Pritchard had 53 tackles, including 23 solo tackles, two QB sacks, and five QB hurries.

Cayden Firestine, senior, Sayre:
A force in the middle of the Redskins line, Firestine recorded 67 tackles on the season, and three QB sacks.

Linebackers
Isaac Peterson, senior, Tioga:

David Northrup, senior, Sayre: Fast with a nose for the ball, Northrup registered a team-high 94 tackles for the Redskins. He also had one QB sack.

Ousmane Duncanson, sophomore, Tioga: Using explosive quickness, Duncanson registered 91 tackles, including 26 solo stops, six tackles-for-losses, and four QB sacks. He also had one interception and one forced fumble.

DJ Shaw, senior, Waverly: Under-sized but with a nose for the ball, Shaw had 115 tackles, including 24 solo stops, in nine games.

Cayden Turcsik, Waverly:
Another under-sized linebacker, Turcsik was always around the ball. He recorded 103 tackles in nine games, including 18 solo stops.

Gavin Godfrey, senior, Tioga:

Caleb Nichols, junior, Athens:
A gifted all-around athlete, Nichols had 60 tackles, including 32 solo stops, one QB sack, and two QB hurries.

Thomas Hand, senior, Waverly:
One of the most improved players in the area, Hand had 79 tackles, including 31 solo stops. He also had one interception.

Jay Pipher, sophomore, Waverly:
Pipher recorded 32 tackles, including 16 solo stops. He also had four interceptions.

Punter
Caleb Nichols, junior, Athens:
Nichols averaged 35.6 yards per punt on 23 chances, including five punts that were downed inside the 20.

Super 7 Newcomers of 2021
Caden Bellis, sophomore, Tioga:

Gage Tedesco, junior, Waverly: Tedesco was second on the Wolverines with 547 rushing yard and eight TDs. He also had five catches for 33 yards.

Defensively, Tedesco recorded 90 tackles and one QB sack.

Evan Sickler, sophomore, Tioga: An impressive two-way player, Sickler had 50 tackles for the Tigers, including 37 solo stops. He also had five interceptions.

Offensively, he had five catches for 207 yards, and two TDs.

Cam Hills, freshman, Waverly: At 340 pounds and agile, Hills was a terror on the defensive line, and an effective blocker in the offensive trenches. He had 30 tackles in 10 games.

Karson Sindoni, sophomore, Tioga:
A starter on the offensive line, too, Sindoni had 23 tackles, including four solo stops in eight game, and one QB sack.

Valentino Rossi, sophomore, Tioga:
Long and athletic, Rossi had 33 tackles, including 18 solo stops, and one interception.

Offensively, Rossi had seven catches for 245 yards and four TDs.

Tate Macauley, freshman, Tioga: A stalwart on the defensive line, Macauley saw limited time on defense, making 13 tackles in six games.

Players to Watch in 2022
Osumane Duncanson, sophomore, Tioga:
An All-Valley linebacker, Duncanson will likely be more heavily involved in the offense in 2022. This year, he had 196 yards and three TDs on 18 carries (10.9 yards per carry), and four catches for 134 yards and two TDs.

Drew Macumber, sophomore, Tioga:
Macumber should become a big-time two-way contributor for the Tigers. This year, he rushed for 273 yards and two TDs on 34 carries (8 yards per carry). Defensively, he had 52 tackles, including 20 solo stops, two QB sacks, and one tackles-for-loss.

Kolsen Keathley, freshman, Athens: A workhorse on the JV team, Keathley could be in line for a lot varsity carries in 2022. He had 106 yards and one TD on 16 carries this season, and four catches for 25 yards.

Xavier Watson, freshman, Athens:
An electric athlete, Watson will likely become one of QB Mason Lister's go-to receivers in 2022.

Isaiah Bretz, junior, Waverly: A dynamic athlete, Bretz could become a big part of the Waverly passing game. Bretz had 16 catches for 191 yards and three TDs. Defensively this season, Bretz had 85 tackles, including 27 solo stops, one QB sack, and one interception.

Conner Stotler, junior, Waverly: Stotler should become a big part of the Wolverine plan on both sides of the ball. He had 47 tackles this season, including 14 solo stops, and one QB sack.

Troy Beeman, 8th-grader, Waverly: Troy Beeman was thrust into action on both sides of the ball late in the season, and accommodated himself well. He'll be an integral part of the offensive and defensive lines for years to come.

Kaden Bennett, sophomore, Sayre:
An instinctive player, had 78 tackles this season for the Redskins. He had three carries for 23 yards this season, and should become a big part of the offense in 2022.

Matt Machmer, junior, Athens:
A good athlete, Machmer should become a big part of the Athens' game plan in 2022. This season, he had seven catches for 73 yards and one TD on offense, Defensively, he had 14 tackles, including 10 solo stops,.
