THE SPORTS REPORTS: CORNING'S LAWSON HEADLINES ALL-REGION GIRLS XC TEAM AS 'RUNNER OF YEAR;' ATHENS' BRONSON TOP NEWCOMER (2021-12-13)

It was a strong girls' running season on both sides of the border, with Corning and Wyalusing winning championship titles.

Corning won a sectional title, and took fifth at states, and were led by state medalist Sarah Lawson, who is The Sports Reports 2021 "Runner of the Year."

The NTL had a strong influx of freshmen, led by Athens' Sara Bronson, and is this year's "Newcomer of the Year."

The Wyalusing girls' team continued their strong showing at the District IV Invitational, despite a lot of turnover in the off-season, winning their third straight title. Their coaches, led by Jim Schools, are the "Coaching Staff of the Year."

Also on the first team are Lawson and fellow state medalist, Owego's Jaelyn Chrysler.

Rounding out the team are Elmira's state qualifier Ana Mordvinova, along with Corning's Faithe Ketchum, Sadie Beres, Bri Urban, and Chrstina Gaskievic.
"¨The second team consists of the Corning duo of Julia Hluck and Ella Grinnell, and state qualifiers Bronson, and her sister Emma Bronson, also of Athens, Troy's Alyssa Parks, Elmira's Payton Ross, and Notre Dame's Piper Young.

On the third team is the NEB duo of Gracelyn Laudermilch and Lilah Hughes, Wyalusing's Kayla Beebe, Waverly's Harper Minaker, Notre Dame's Riley Soehnlein, Elmira's Emma Barends, and Owego's Abigail Fahey.
