IAC WRESTLING: TIOGA ADVANCES 13 TO QUARTERFINALS OF THE BRADSHAW INVITATIONAL (2022-01-14)

CANANDAIGUA, N.Y.— Tioga advanced 13 of its 17 wrestlers into the quarterfinals of the annual Robert Bradshaw Invitational here Friday night, with its other four wrestlers still alive in the consolation bracket.

The Tigers have two wrestlers in the quarterfinals at 110, 118, 126, 145, and 152 pounds.

Tioga has a commanding lead in the team standings with 91.5 points, well ahead of runner-up Pittsford, which has 51 points. Victor (47 points), and Chenango Forks (45) are in third and fourth place, respectively, with Fairport and Jordan-Elbridge tied for fifth with 43 points.

Also, junior Emily Sindoni will wrestle for first place in her weight class in the women’s varsity tournament Saturday after recording a pair of pins in her round-robin bracket.

A breakdown by weight class is as follows:

102 pounds: Eighth-grader Kaydin Cole dropped a 6-4 decision to Marcus Whitman’s Ty Conniver in the opening round, but bounced back in the consolation bracket with a pin of Red Jacket’s Garrett Cook in 4:15.

110 pounds: Sophomore Deakon Bailey went 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals. He forged a 12-2 major decision over Jordan-Elbridge’s Dylan Nolan in the pigtail round, then decked Red Jacket’s Wyatt Rossignol in 52 seconds in the round-of-16.

Bailey will face Chenango Forks’ Kaeden Hubbard in the quarterfinals.

Eighth-grader Jayden Duncanson is also in the quarterfinals after a 58-second fall over Horseheads’ Brian Park in the opening round.

Duncanson will face Victor’s Tony Marcano in the quarterfinals.

118 pounds: Sophomores Gianni Silvestri and Levi Bellis advanced to the quarterfinals in the 118-pound weight class.

Silvestri decked Red Jacket’s Hasen Weatherbee in 1:53 in the opening round, and will face Pittsford’s Jackson Ciocca in the quarterfinals.

Bellis received a bye into the quarterfinals, and will face Pittsford’s Scott Karpovich in the quarterfinals.

126 pounds: Sophomore Tyler Roe and senior Mason Welch each went 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Roe pinned Pal-Mac’s Rocco Ross in 27 seconds in the pigtail round, then scored a takedown in overtime for an 8-6 win over Webster-Schroeder’s Joe Berenson in the round-of-16.

Roe will face Jordan-Elbridge’s Henry Smith in the quarterfinals.

Welch pinned Horseheads’ Seth Loucks in the pigtail round, then decked Penfield’s Caleb Green in 3:31 in the round-of-16.

Welch will face Horseheads’ Cody Dale in the quarterfinals.

132 pounds:
Sophomore Caden Bellis recorded a pair of falls to advance to the quarterfinals.

Bellis decked Webster-Schroeder’s Ethan Vazquez in 73 seconds in the pigtail round, then pinned Brighton’s Sam Gray in 1:39 in the round-of-16.

Bellis will face Webster-Thomas’ Jacob Mendola in the quarterfinals.

138 pounds:  Sophomore Drew Macumber and junior John Woodcock both went 1-1 and are alive in the consolation bracket.

Woodcock pinned Pal-Mac’s Jacob Mair in the pigtail round, then lost a 9-2 decision to Fairport’s Zack Boyle in the round-of-16.

Macumber lost via a 17-1 technical fall to Ithaca ace George Oroudjov in the round-of-16, but bounced back to beat  Mair in a 14-4 major decision in wrestlebacks.

145 pounds: Junior Donovan Smith and senior Justin Hopkins each advanced to the quarterfinals.

Smith, who received a bye into the round-of-16, forged an 18-3 technical fall win over Webster-Thomas’ Chase Gottstein to advance.

Smith will face Newark’s Trevor Bouwens in the quarterfinals.

Hopkins pinned South Seneca’s Jack Snyder in 4:43 in the pigtail round, then decked Canandaigua’s Collin Ferguson in 2:32 in the round-of-16.

Hopkins will face Penfield’s Nolan Liess in the quarterfinals.

152 pounds: Sophomore Ousmane Duncanson and senior Emmett Wood each went 2-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Duncanson decked Webster-Thomas’ Jonathan Schmitt in 3:31 in the pigtail round, then pinned Pal-Mac’s Mateo Sloan in 2:15 in the round-of-16.

Duncanson will face Hilton’s Rocco Camillaci in the quarterfinals.

Wood decked Red Jacket’s Micah Marshfield in 1:34 in the pigtail round, then flattened Brighton’s Daniel Barraclough-Tan in 54 seconds in the round-of-16.

Wood will face Victor’s Sam Ricci in the quarterfinals.

172 pounds:
Sophomore Trent Browne went 1-1 and is still alive in wrestlebacks.

Browne pinned Red Jacket’s Ethan Lenney in 5:48 in the pigtail round, then dropped a 4-0 decision to Lancaster’s Evan Stencel in the round-of-16.

215 pounds: Senior Josh Snell won his only bout of the night, pinning Midlakes’ Tyler Crough in 3:18 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Snell will face Victor’s Dexter Ernest in the quarterfinals.

285 pounds: Freshman Tate Macauley won his only bout of the night, pinning Penfield’s Sam Weaver in 4:50 to advance to the quarterfinals.

Macauley will face Newark’s Adam Hernandez in the quarterfinals.

In the varsity women’s 118-129 pound bracket, Sindoni was 2-0. She pinned Midlakes’ Olivia Miles in 59 seconds, and followed it up with a pin of Lancaster’s Trista Blasz in 1:44.

Sindoni will wrestle Jordan-Elbridge’s Kaylee Swaglin, who also had a pair of pins, for the weight class title Saturday.

The quarterfinals begin at 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
