DRYDEN — Waverly built to a 10-point first-quarter lead, then used used a strong third quarter to blow the game open in a 45-36 win over Dryden Friday night in IAC Large School crossover junior varsity girls basketball action.

Ryleigh Judson scored seven points, including a 3-pointer, in the first quarter, and Mackenzie Olmsted added a 3-point to help the junior Wolverines to a 14-4 lead.

Judson and Lea Cole each knocked down 3-pointers in the second quarter as Waverly maintained its lead, taking a 23-13 lead into the halftime locker room.

Judson scored seven more points in the third quarter, including her third 3-pointer, and Brilynn Belles added four points in a 13-4 run that gave Waverly a 36-17 lead heading into the final eight minutes.

Waverly made just 2 of 7 free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter, and Dryden was able to trim 10 points off the lead with a 19-9 run.

Judson and Belles scored 15 points apiece to lead Waverly, while Olmsted added a pair of 3-pointers for six points, and Cole chipped in with five points.

Giuliana Pascarella led Dryden with 14 points, and Maysie Davis added 10.

Waverly hosts Newark Valley Wednesday.
