LONG ISLAND — Candor’s Brennan Zimmer and Horseheads’ Connor McAllister each finished second, and Waverly’s Avery Bowman finished fourth last weekend at the NYWAY State wrestling championships.

All three were wrestling for the Valley-based Independent Wrestling Club.

Wrestling in the 12U 102-pound bracket, Zimmer dropped his first match, but bounced back with four straight wins to finish second in the round-robin format.

Zimmer dropped a 7-3 decision to Barrett David in his firs about, but with an 11-3 major decision and a 27-second fall.

He finished off his day with wins of 6-0 and 6-1.

In the 12U 70-pound bracket, McAllister opened with an 11-0 major decision and an 87-second fall to advance to the finals, where he dropped a 5-0 decision to John Tutku of Long Island.

In the 12U 90-pound bracket, Bowman opened with an 8-4 win, but dropped a 6-0 decision in the semifinals.

Bowman bounced back in the consolation semifinals with a pin in 1:57, but dropped a hard-fought, 2-0, decision in the third-place match.
