IAC SOFTBALL: TIOGA BELTS SIX HOME RUNS IN 26-2 WIN OVER CANDOR (12 PHOTOS) (2022-04-28)

CANDOR — Senior Alissa Hine pitched a complete game, and hit one of Tioga’s six home runs in a 26-2 win over Candor here Thursday afternoon in IAC Small School Division softball action.

Hine allowed two unearned runs on three hits, while striking out 10 and walking two in seven innings to earn the win.

Six different Lady Tigers — Hine, senior Julia Bellis, juniors Felicia Lantz and M.J. Thetga, freshman Erin Luther, and 8th-grader RaeAnne Feeko — hit round-trippers in the win.

The Lady Tigers scored two runs in the top of the first inning in a rally highlighted by an RBI single by  Luther. They extended the lead to 4-0 in the third inning on back-to-back, two-out solo home runs by Bellis and Lantz.

Candor took advantage of a two-out error in the home half of the third to cut the lead to 4-2.

In the top of the fourth, Hine led off with a single, but was thrown out attempting to steal second. Seniors Molly Bombard and Abby Foley followed with consecutive singles, and Feeko added to the lead with an RBI single.

With two outs, Luther made it 6-2 with an RBI single, and the Lady Tigers added two more runs on a throwing error.

Senior Austyn Vance led off the fifth with a single for the Lady Tigers, and scored moments later on an RBI double by Hine to extend the lead to 9-2. Hine, who took third on a throw home on her double, scored on an RBI groundout off the bat of Bombard to make it 10-2.

With two outs, Feeko belted a home run to center field to extend the lead to 11-2.

The Lady Tigers blew the game wide open with 15 runs in the top of the seventh inning. The rally featured a three-run home run and an RBI single by Hine, two RBI singles by Foley, a three-run home run by Thetga, a solo home run by Luther, which was back-to-back with Thetga’s, and an RBI double by Lantz.

Hine had four hits, including a double, three runs scored and five RBI, while Feeko had four hits, five runs scored, and two RBI, and Foley slapped four singles, scored three runs, and had two RBI to pace Tioga’s 24-hit attack.

Luther had three hits, two runs scored, and three RBI in the win, while Vance stroked three singled and scored three runs, Lantz, who also had a double, had two hits, two runs scored, and two RBI, and Bombard doubled and singled, scored three runs, and drove in one run.

Bellis had one hit, two runs scored, and four RBI for the Lady Tigers, while Thetga had one hit, one run scored, and four RBI, and senior Gabby Foley scored two runs.

Tioga, now 7-1, hosts Newark Valley Friday.
