IAC SOFTBALL: TIOGA ROLLS TO 22-3 WIN OVER NEWARK VALLEY (24 PHOTOS) (2022-04-29)

TIOGA CENTER — Tioga pushed nine runs across the plate in the bottom of the first inning, and cruised to a, 22-3, four-inning win over Newark Valley here Friday afternoon in IAC South softball action.

The Lady Cardinals, who were missing five starters to a band trip, took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Lady Tigers took control in the home half of the frame.

After senior Abby Foley walked to lead off the inning, 8th-grader RaeAnne Feeko reached on an error, junior M.J. Thetga ripped a two-run triple, and scored on an errant throw to give Tioga a 3-1 lead.

Tioga added two runs on errors to make it 5-1, then senior Alissa Hine belted an RBI triple to extend the lead to 6-1.

The Lady Tigers added three more runs on passed balls to take a 9-1 lead.

Tioga tacked on six runs in the second inning in a rally that included an RBI single by Feeko, and RBI double by Thetga, and an RBI triple by Luther.

After Newark Valley plated two runs in the top of the third, Tioga answered in the home half with six runs in a rally highlighted by a two-run double by Feeko, and RBI double by Thetga, and an RBI single by Luther.

Thetga had three hits, including two doubles and a triple, scored one run, while had four RBI, and Feeko doubled and singled, scored three runs, and drove in three runs, and Luther singled twice, scored two runs, and knocked in two runs.

Senior Julia Bellis singled, scored three runs, and drove in one run in the win, while Hine tripled, scored one run, and knocked in one run, Abby Foley scored four runs, senior Molly Bombard scored three runs, senior Austyn Vance scored one run and drove in one run, and junior Felicia Lantz scored two runs.

Luther earned the win for the Lady Tigers, allowing three runs on four hits, while striking out three and walking two in three innings of work.

Hine allowed one hit, walked one, and struck out one in an inning of scoreless relief.

Tioga, now 8-1, takes on unbeaten S-VE Saturday morning.
