Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY — In a welcomed departure from recent weather, sunny skies greeted the Opening Day of the Waverly Little League season Saturday morning.

Following a parade to the Little League complex ‚ the first since 2019 (Covid in 2020 and a rainout in 2021), Waverly baseball coach Kyle McDuffee emceed the Opening Day ceremonies in front of a very large crowd. He heaped praise on the Waverly Little League and its role in the continued success of Waverly baseball at the high school level.

McDuffee also pay homage to former Waverly mayor and Tioga County Legislator Andy Quinlan, who passed away this week.

Quinlan’s great-nephew Joey Tomasso, a Waverly H.S. sophomore and member of the varsity baseball team, threw out the ceremonial first pitch for the 2022 season to current Waverly Little Leaguer Brycen Fiske, then presented Quinlan’s widow — Marilee — with a bouquet of flowers.

The day concluded with a pair of Opening Day games.
