NTL SOFTBALL: SAYRE DROPS WILD, 20-19, DECISION TO SULLIVAN COUNTY (11 PHOTOS) (2022-05-11)

SAYRE - Sayre erased a seven-run deficit late in the game, but Sullivan County held on for a wild 20-19 eighth-inning win here Wednesday afternoon in non-league softball action.

Sullivan scored six runs in the top of the first inning, but the Lady Redskins rallied to take a 10-9 lead after four innings.

The Lady Griffins pushed eight runs across the plate in the top of the fifth inning to take a 17-10 lead, but Sayre responded with two runs in the fifth inning, and five more in the sixth to tie the game at 17-17.

Sullivan County scored a run in the top of the seventh, and had a runner thrown at the plate. Sayre answered with a run to tie the game, and left runners on first and third.

The Lady Griffins scored twice in the top of the eighth inning, but Sayre could only muster one run, with the potential game-tying run stranded on first base.

Abby McGaughey had four hits, including two doubles, scored three runs, and had two RBI, and Aliyah Rawlings had three hits, including a triple and a double, scored two runs, and three RBI to pace Sayre at the plate.

Madison Smith had three hits, including a double, scored three runs, and drove in three runs for the Lady Redskins, while Olivia Corbin doubled and singled, scored one run, and had two RBI, Mercedes Haggerty singled twice, scored two runs, and drove in two runs, and Raegan Parrish singled and drove in two runs.

Makenna Garrison scored four runs for Sayre, while Meghan Flynn scored three runs, and M VanDuzer scored one run.

Sayre also benefitted from 11 bases on ball, three hit batters, and six errors, while Sullivan County, which matched the Lady Redskins with 15 hits, took advantage of seven walks, four hit batters, and seven Sayre errors.

Sayre, now 0-13, hosts Waverly at 11 a.m. Saturday, and Tioga at 1:30 p.m. in the "Battle at the Border."
