TIOGA CENTER - Cameron Rought and Zach Mumbulo each drove in five runs to lead fifth-seeded Tioga to a 17-4 five-inning win over 12th-seeded Whitney Point here Wednesday evening in the opening round of the IAC junior varsity baseball tournament.

Tioga will travel to face fourth-seeded Thomas A. Edison Thursday evening in the quarterfinals.

Whitney Point jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Tioga answered with 13 runs in the home half of the frame.

The Tigers scored their first three runs on five base on balls and a hit batsman. Jackson Clark’s RBI single gave them the lead for good, at 4-3.

Rought added a two-run single later in the inning to make it 10-3, and Mumbulo capped the rally with a three-run inside-the-park home run.

Rought added a two-run double, and Mumbulo an RBI triple in the second inning as Tioga extended its lead to 17-4.

Mumbulo homered and doubled, scored two runs, and had five RBI, and Rought tripled and singled, scored three runs, and had five RBI to lead Tioga’s nine-hit attack, while Clark singled twice, scored one run, and drove in one run, and Frank Chapman doubled and scored three runs.

Garrett Godfrey singled, scored three runs, and drove in one run in the win, while Tate MaCauley singled and scored two runs, Mike Marshall, Josh Benjamin-Doyle and Luke Powell each scored one run and drove in one run.

Chapman started on the mound for the junior Tigers, allowing three unearned runs on two hits, while striking out two.

Powell earned the win, allowing one run on three walks, while striking out four. Mumbulo closed out the game two innings of one-hit scoreless relief, with four strikeouts and one walk.
