MARATHON — Seniors Mariah Nichols, who placed in four events, and Julia Walsh logged Tioga’s only wins here Tuesday afternoon, leading the Lady Tigers to a fifth-place finish at the Section IV, Class D Track & Field Championships.

“The girls and boys did really well,” said Tioga coach Eric Gutierrez.

“We had many athletes on, or almost on, the podium tonight,” he noted. “There were many good performances and I am really proud of this group of athletes.

“We have a few athletes very high on the Leaderboard list, and a few young ones on the list as well.

“It will be nice having a few days where we can practice a few things before the state qualifier,” added Gutierrez.

Unadilla Valley won the Class D crown with 61 points, while Delhi was second with 55.5 points, Oxford and O-M tied for third at 46, and Tioga tallied 40 points for fifth place in the 24-team field.

Nichols won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 16.97 seconds, and Wash was third in 18.36 seconds.

Nichols finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 31-feet, 3-inches.

Nichols finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:12.25, and Walsh was fifth in 1:12.75.

Nichols also placed sixth in the long jump with a leap of 14-feet, 4 3/4-inches, and 8th-grader Ava Smolinsky was 15th at 12-feet, 10-inches.

Walsh won the pole vault, clearing the bar at 9-feet, while sophomore Emma Jaye was eighth at 6-feet.

Freshman Elyse Haney finished sixth in the 100-meter dash in 13.76 seconds. She was 13th in the 200-meter dash in 30.14 seconds.

Sophomore Lexy Ward finished eighth in the 3,000-meter run in a time of 14:29.65.

Tioga’s 400-meter relay team of Walsh, Haney, Lily Mesler, and freshman Emily Burrowes finished eighth in 56.74 seconds.

Freshman Erica Bradley was 10th in the 800-meter run in 2:51.97.

Senior Summer Mesler finished 11th in the discus with a toss of 62-feet, 9-inches,, and sophomore Alex Creller was 14th at 60-feet, 10-inches.

Lily Mesler was 13th in the 400-meter run in a time of 1:09.68.

Tioga returns to action next week at the Section IV State Qualifier at Union-Endicott.
