MARATHON — Senior Matt Watson and sophomore Valentino Rossi were each double-winners and placed in four events to lead Tioga to a second-place finish here Tuesday afternoon at the Section IV, Class D Track & Field Championships.

“The boys and girls did really well,” said Tioga coach Eric Gutierrez.

“We had many athletes on, or almost on, the podium tonight,” he noted. “There were many good performances and I am really proud of this group of athletes.

“We have a few athletes very high on the Leaderboard list, and a few young ones on the list as well.

“It will be nice having a few days where we can practice a few things before the state qualifier,” added Gutierrez.

Laurens-Milford won the Class D title with 96 points, while Tioga tallied 74 points for second in the 22-team field. S-VE was third with 56.33 points, while fourth-place B-G had 47.5 points, and fifth-place Delhi had 43 points.

Watson won the triple jump at 40-feet, 9-inches, and Rossi placed second at 40-feet, 4 1/2-inches.

Rossi won the long jump with a leap of 19-feet, 2 3/4-inches, and Watson was eighth at 17-feet, 6-inches.

Rossi and Watson teamed with senior Chris Walsh and sophomore Ousmane Duncanson to win the 400-meter relay in a time of 47.06 seconds.

Eighth-grader Gavin Albrecht finished second in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 11-feet, while freshman Isaiah Fore was fourth at 9-feet, and freshman Ryan Chamberlain was seventh at 8-feet.

Rossi finished third in the 200-meter dash in 24.54 seconds, and senior Chris Walsh was 13th in 26.13 seconds.

The 3,200-meter relay team of Fore, junior Thomas Hurd, senior Will Slater, and sophomore Jonah Lamb finished third in a time of 9:59.86.

Freshman Andrew Earley finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 18.72 seconds, and Chamberlain was seventh in 19.95 seconds.

Earley also finished fourth in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:06.33, and Chamberlain was seventh in 1:11.01.

Hurd placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 12:35.31. He was 10th in the 3,200-meter run in 12:30.49.

Watson finished sixth in the 400-meter dash in 55.34 seconds, and Duncanson placed sixth in the 100-meter dash in 12.3 seconds.

Senior Colt Herrala finished ninth in the discus with a toss of 94-feet, 11-inches. He was 11th in the high jump at 5-feet.

Senior Josh Snell was 14th in the shot put at 33-feet, 11 3/4-inches.

Tioga returns to action next week at the Section IV State Qualifier at Union-Endicott.
