IAC SOFTBALL: TIOGA'S THETGA NAMED DIVISIONAL CO-MVP; THREE TEAMMATES NAMED TO FIRST TEAM, FOUR RECEIVE HONORABLE MENTION (2022-05-27)

Valley Sports Report
THE VALLEY — Tioga junior M.J. Thetga was named IAC South Small School Division co-Most Valuable Player, and three of her teammates also earned first-team honors in recent voting by the division’s coaches.

Thetga split the MVP honors with S-VE standout Reagan Sudnikovich.

Thetga, an outstanding defensive catcher, hit .528 (38 hits in 72 ABs) with 10 runs scored, seven doubles, four triples, three home runs, and 39 RBI. She also walked 11 times for an on-base percentage of .575, and had a slugging percentage of .861 for a 1.436 OPS.

Defensively, Thetga threw out six runners attempting to steal, and picked two runners off first base, and committed just one error in 122 defensive chances for a .984 fielding percentage.

Also earning first-team honors for the Lady Tigers were seniors Abby Foley and Alissa Hine, and freshman Erin Luther.

Tioga also had four players earn honorable mention recognition in seniors Julia Bellis, Austyn Vance and Molly Bombard, and 8th-grader RaeAnne Feeko.

FIRST TEAM
Abby Foley, senior, Tioga:
A fearless defender at third base, Foley is a skilled slap-hitter, who hit .479 (35 hits in 73 Abs) with nine RBI, 36 runs scored, and 16 stolen bases. She had 11 walks for a .548 on-base percentage, and a 1.027 OPS.

Alissa Hine, senior, Tioga: Hine had a strong year at the plate and in the pitcher’s circle. She hit .411 (23 hits in 56 ABs) with six doubles, one triple, one home run, 22 RBI, 16 runs scored, and eight stolen bases.

In the circle, Hine was 11-3 with a 2.20 ERA. She fanned 71 and walked 23 in 82 2/3 innings.

Erin Luther, freshman, TIoga: Luther was one of the top first-year varsity performers in the area. She hit .388 (26 hits in 67 ABs) with two doubles, five triples, five home runs, 28 RBI, and 22 runs scored. She walked seven times for a .461 on-base percentage, and had a .791 slugging percentage for a 1.252 OPS.

In the circle, Luther posted a 2-3 record with 36 strikeouts in 25 innings.

Also named to the first team were S-VE’s Katelyn Klym, Faith Brenchley, Rhiana Lawrence, and Hannah Martinez, and Candor’s Addie Aman, Shelby Swartz, and Anna Greeno.

Honorable Mention
Julia Bellis, senior, Tioga:
A slick-fielding first baseman, Bellis hit .303 (20 hits in 66 ABs) with two doubles, one home run, 17 RBI, 20 runs scored, and five stolen bases.

Austyn Vance, senior, Tioga: A solid outfielder with good range and a strong arm, Vance hit .421 ((24 hits in 57 ABs) with three doubles, seven triples, 11 RBI, 25 runs scored, and nine stolen bases. She walked 10 times for a 515 on-base percentage, and had a 719 slugging percentage for a 1.234 OPS.

Molly Bombard, senior, Tioga: A team leader on the field and good defender at second base, Bombard hit .395 (17 hits in 43 ABs) with two doubles, 12 RBI, 19 runs scored, and five stolen bases. She also walked 11 times, and had a .536 on-base percentage.

Rae Anne Feeko, 8th-grader, Tioga:
A slick-fielding shortstop, Feeko was one of the best first-year varsity players in the region. She hit .397 (29 hits in 73 Abs) with four doubled, three triples, two home runs, 23 RBI, 33 runs scored, and eight stolen bases. She walked six times for an on-base percentage of .443, and had a .616 slugging percentage for a 1.059 OPS.

Defensively, she committed just three errors in 63 defensive chance for a .952 fielding percentage.

Also earning honorable mention recognition were O-M’s Mackenzie Cannon, Candor’s Jill Holmes and Isabel Makie, and Chloe White, and S-VE’s Adriena Farmer.
