LAPORTE — Athens scored four runs in the second and third innings to erase an early deficit en route to a 12-5 five-inning win over Sullivan County here Wednesday evening in Bradford-Tioga counties American Legion Baseball action.

Sullivan County scored two runs — without the benefit of a hit — in the bottom of the first inning, but Athens answered quickly.

Troy Rosenbloom led off with a base on balls, stole second, moved to third on a passed ball, and scored on an error off the bat of Cam Sullivan to close the gap to 2-1.

With two outs, Sullivan scored on a passed ball to tie the game. Moments later, Jack Cheresnowsky re-ignited the rally with a single, and Dylan Saxon followed with a line-drive single that advanced Cheresnowsky to third.

Brady Darrow gave Athens a 3-2 lead with an RBI single, and Carson Rowe capped the rally with an RBI double.

The Athens offense kept it rolling in the third inning. Sullivan led off with a single, Cheresnowsky reached on an error, and Kade Rowe walked to load the bases.

Back-to-back walks to Kaiden Hyjek and Saxon forced home runs to extend the lead to 6-2, then Darrow drove home a run with an RBI single up the middle to make it 7-2.

Athens tacked on another run on an error, and led 8-2 after three innings.

Saxon drove home a run with a sacrifice fly int he top of the fourth to give Athens a 9-2 lead, but Sullivan County answered with three runs in the home half of the frame to close the gap to 9-5.

Athens added three insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning on a two-RBI triple by Jaren Glisson, who scored on the next pitch on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Sullivan.

Glisson tripled, scored one run, and had two RBI, and Rosenbloom doubled, scored one run, and had two RBI to lead Athens’ five-hit attack, while Sullivan singled, scored two runs, and drove in one run.

Kade Rowe singled and scored two runs in the win, while Darrow singled, scored one run, and drove in one run, Saxon scored one run, and had two RBI, Carson Rowe and Hyjek each scored one run, and knocked in one run, and Johnson and Cheresnowsky each scored one run.

Rosenbloom earned the win, allowing five runs on two hits, while striking out eight and walking six in a complete-game, five-inning effort.

Athens improves to 4-3 on the season.
