LAPORTE — Sayre exploded for 20 runs in its final three at-bats, including 14 in the top of the sixth inning en route to a 22-4 win over Sullivan County here Thursday evening in Bradford-Tioga counties American Legion baseball action.

Sayre took advantage of 16 base on balls, and five Sullivan County errors, while rapping out 11 hits in the win.

Sayre took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on an RBI single by Kannon VanDuzer, and extended its lead to 2-0 in the second on an RBI groundout off the bat of Joey VanAllen.

Sullivan County took advantage of a pair of base on balls, an error, and an RBI double by Alex Schweitzer.

After Sayre scored a run on an error in the top of the fourth to tie the game at 3-3, Zach Garrity stroked a line-drive RBI single, and Karter Green added an RBI single to make it 5-3.

Jackson Hubbard’s two-RBI triple in the top of the fifth inning pushed the lead to 7-3. Hubbard scored on a passed ball to make it 8-3.

Sayre took advantage of five base on balls and a hit batsman to stretch its lead to 11-3 in the top of the sixth inning, then Karter Green plated a pair with a two-run single to make it 13-3.

Three more walks pushed the advantage to 15-3, then Brendan Cook drove in two runs, and Garrity ripped a two-run single.

Sayre scored its final two runs on an error.

Garrity doubled and singled, scored three runs, and had four RBI, and Hubbard tripled and singled, scored five runs, and drove in two runs to pace Sayre at the plate, while VanDuzer singled twice and knocked in one run, and Karter Green singled twice, scored one run, and drove in three runs.

Hogan Shaw singled, scored three runs, and drove in two runs in the win, while Ronin Ault and Joey VanAllen each singled and scored one run, Cook scored three runs and had two RBI, David Hall scored two runs and knocked in one run, Jake Burgess and Aidan Ennis each scored one run and knocked in one run, and Will Crossett crossed the plate once.

VanDuzer started for Sayre, striking out four and walking two in two scoreless innings. Ault relieved and allowed three runs — two earned — on two hits, while striking out five and walking four in two innings.

Hubbard closed out the game, allowing an unearned run on two walks, while striking out five.

Sayre, now 6-0, plays at Wyalusing on Wednesday.
