YOUTH SOFTBALL (12U) SILVER BULLETS BLACK GOES 4-1 AT KEYSTONE SELECT TOURNEY (2022-07-20)

STATE COLLEGE — The Silver Bullets Black 12U team, which includes Athens’ Gretchen Hiley, went 4-1 at the Keystone Select Youth Softball Tournament over the weekend at the Hess Softball Complex.


The Bullets won all three Saturday games, beating the Impact Panthers 12-3, the Central PA Xplosion 11-2, and NW Explosion 4-3. In bracket play Sunday, they beat the Impact Panthers, 12-2, but then lost to the Central PA Xplosion Blue team, 14-8.

In their first meeting against the Impact Panthers, Canton’s Jaylee Ward went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI, while Troy’s Haidyn Watson was 1-for-2 with a run scored, and an RBI. Towanda’s Leila Cobb was 1-for-3 with a double, and an RBI, and Hiley was 1-for-2 with a double, two runs scored, and three RBI.

Cobb got the win in the circle, going four innings with eight strikeouts.

Against the Central PA Xplosion, Ward went 1-for-2 with two runs scored, and an RBI, while Watson was 1-for-3 with two RBI, and a run scored. Both Cobb and Hiley scored, and Cobb also drove in a run.

Watson got the win, going 3 1/3 innings with six strikeouts.

In their final game on Saturday, the Bullets rallied from a 3-2 deficit to score two runs in the bottom of the fifth to get the walk-off win.

Watson was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, two RBI, and two runs scored, while Ward went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Watson had the game-tying home run in the fifth.

Hiley was 1-for-3 with an RBI, including the game-winning hit in the bottom of the fifth

Hiley got the win in the circle, striking out six in five innings of action. 

In their second meeting with the Impact Panthers, Watson went 2-for-2 with a triple, three runs scored, and an RBI, while Ward was 2-for-3 with a double, and two runs scored.


Hiley went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, and two RBI.

Watson got the win in the circle, going four innings to strikeout five.


In the loss to Central PA Xplosion Blue, Ward went 1-for-4 with three runs scored, and an RBI, while Watson scored twice. Cobb and Hiley both went 1-for-4 with an RBI.


Cobb started, and went two innings with three strikeouts. Hiley went the next two innings, with two strikeouts. Watson pitched the final 2 2/3-innings with one strikeout.
