YOUTH BASEBALL (10U): MAINE-ENDWELL TOPS NICHOLS-TIOGA TWICE TO WIN OWEGO TOURNAMENT (2022-07-24)
Valley Sports ReportOWEGO — Maine-Endwell jumped out to early leads in both games, and beat Nichols-Tioga twice here twice Saturday to rally out of the consolation bracket and win the Owego 10U Baseball Tournament.
Maine-Endwell won the opener Saturday morning, 8-6, then bested NTLL, 9-5, in the winner-take-all championship game in the afternoon.
Nichols-Tioga dropped a 10-9 decision to Maine-Endwell in pool play, but upended the top seeded M-E, 5-3, in the winner’s bracket finals, setting up M-E’s need for two wins Saturday.
Maine-Endwell 8, Nichols-Tioga 6Maine-Endwell scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning, and held off a late Nichols-Tioga charge in an 8-6 win to force a second game.
Maine-Endwell scored three more runs in the home half of the third inning to up its lead to 8-1.
NTLL scored one run in the top of the fifth inning, then scored four runs in the top of the sixth, and had the potential game-tying run at the plate.
Ian Weaver doubled, scored one run, and had two RBI, and Jacob Keene tripled and knocked in one run to pace Tioga’s five-hit attack, while Jonah Palmer singled and scored two runs, Sam Wilson singled and scored one run, and Kaylah Nelson added a single.
Evan Preshur scored one run and drove in one run for NTLL, and Landon Carlucci scored one run.
Maine-Endwell 9, Nichols-Tioga 5Nichols-Tioga scored first, but Maine-Endwell built a five-run lead through three innings on its way to the tournament title with a 9-5 win.
Maine-Endwell answered NTLL with two runs in the home half of the first, but the N-T contingent plated a pair of runs in the top of the second for a 3-2 lead.
M-E scored four runs in the bottom of the second, and three more in the third to take a 9-4 lead.
NTLL scored once in the fourth, but couldn’t muster any offense in the final two innings.
Weaver doubled and drove in one run, while Wilson singled and scored two runs, and Keene singled, scored one run, and knocked in one run to pace Tioga at the plate.
Carlucci singled and scored one run for NTLL, while Tyler Haskins added a single, Jack Braunbeck had two RBI, Nelson scored one run, and drove in one run, Preshur scored one run, and Palmer drove in one run.
