YOUTH SOFTBALL (10U): WAVERLY-1 CLAIMS TITLE AT OWEGO TOURNAMENT (2022-07-30)

OWEGO — Waverly-1 made a five-run first inning hold up for a 6-3 victory over Owego in the championship game of the Owego 10U Girls Softball Tournament.

Bhree North, Sydney Donovan, Kendall North, Jaylynn Lantz and Raygane Oakes accounted for the runs. Bhree and Kendall Norths each belted triples, while Donovan and Oakes added doubles.

Owego got three of the runs back in the bottom of the third. Emma Cornell hit a home run, Lydia Chase doubled and scored, and Alannah Hall also scored.

Waverly added an insurance run in the fifth when Oakes reached safely to lead off the inning and eventually scored.

Kendall North and Sydney Donovan shared the pitching duties.

The 10U roster includes: Kendall North, Bhree North, Sydney Donovan, Raygane Oakes, Amelia Wright, Aubrey Westbrook, Helen Fourie, Brinley Rabel, Jaylynn Lantz, Maci Bostwick, LillyAna Markoff, Layla Stack, and Olivia McGee,

The team is coached by Amanda Hammond, Scott Foust, and Danielle Drake.

The Owego Tournament was their end-of-season league tournament. Owego did not play in the league during regular season, but asked to play if they hosted the tournament.

During the regular season, Waverly-1 was unbeaten, but did tie one game against Tioga-1.

In pool play of the season-ending tourney, Waverly-1 beat Waverly-2, then tied Tioga-1 again.

Waverly beat S-VE in the semifinals, to set up their match-up against Owego in the championship tilt.
