NEW YORK STATE FOOTBALL: TIOGA ATOP CLASS D RANKINGS, WAVERLY 7TH IN CLASS C (2022-09-22)

SYRACUSE — The first football state rankings are out, and defending Class D champion Tioga is right where it finished up in 2021, while Waverly cracks the Top 10 in Week 1 of the New York State Sportswriters Association rankings.

CLASS D
TIoga, at 3-0, is ranked No. 1 in the Class D rankings, while Section V’s Oakfield-Alabama / Elba (3-0), which lost soundly to the Tigers in last year’s state semifinals in ranked second.

Section VII Moriah (2-0), which fell 27-0 to Tioga in the state title game, is ranked third, while Section I Tuckahoe (2-0) is fourth, Section VI Randolph (3-0), and Section III Dolgeville, which lost in a rout to Tioga in last year’s state quarterfinals is ranked sixth.

Also representing Section IV are Delhi (2-0) and Walton (2-0) ranked seventh and 11th, respectively.

CLASS C
Defending state champion Chenango Forks (3-0) sits atop the Class C rankings, while Waverly (3-0) is seventh, and Susquehanna Valley (2-0) is 19th.

Rounding out the top five are Section II’s Schuylerville (3-0), Section V’s LeRoy (2-0), Section III’s Cazenovia (2-0), and Section VI’s Fredonia (3-0), which are second through fifth, respectively.

CLASS B
Defending state champion Maine-Endwell (2-0) sits atop the Class B rankings, while Windsor (1-1) — its lone loss to Chenango Forks — is an honorable mention.

CLASS A
Union-Endicott (1-1) is tanked 19th in Class A, and is the only Section IV team receiving recognition.

CLASS AA
Corning (2-0) is ranked 20th in the Class AA rankings, while Elmira (2-0) is an honorable mention.
