IAC GIRLS SOCCER: TIOGA FALLS AT NEWFIELD, 4-1 (2022-09-23)

Valley Sports Report
NEWFIELD — Renee Bickham netted a hat trick to lead Newfield to a 4-1 win over Tioga here Friday afternoon in IAC South Small School Division girls soccer action.

“The 11 girls of Tioga really stepped up this afternoon after a disappointing performance against Watkins Glen on Monday,” said Tioga coach Jim Walsh. “I can't single out one player, they all performed tonight. I will say it was nice to play a team more toward our young team's caliber.”

With the three goals, Bickham became Newfield’s all-time leading goal-scorer.

“Renee Bickham is a smooth player and was hard to stop,” said Walsh.

“Newfield, like many teams we have faced this year, has a lot of seniors compared to our zero seniors,” he noted.  “If these young Tigers stick together, they have the opportunity to really grow in the next few years.

“Tonight, for the first time this year they played like a real varsity team,” he added.

Elyse Haney scored Tioga lone goal. It was unassisted.

Tioga, now 0-7, hosts Notre Dame Tuesday.
