IAC BOYS SOCCER: WATKINS GLEN USES LATE GOAL TO EDGE TIOGA, 2-1 (2022-09-24)

TIOGA CENTER — Watkins Glen scored a goal late in the game to pull out a 2-1 win here Saturday morning in IAC South boys soccer action at Haggerty Field.

“It was a hard-fought game by both teams,” said Tioga coach Adam Layman.

“Defensively, we played a much better game. We held our shape and shut down runs,” he noted. “Offensively, we had a very good game. We had great communication, passing, and movement.

“Unfortunately, the outcome of today’s game was not in our favor,” added Layman. “We will continue to work hard in practice and further our skill set.”

Freshman Ryan Baudendistle scored with 25:08 remaining in first half to give the Senecas a 1-0 lead it would carry into the halftime intermission.

Junior Tyler Roe scored for the Tigers midway through the second half to tie the game at 1-1.

Senior Jacob Yontz connected on the game-winner with 5:53 remaining in game off a corner kick to make it 2-1.

Tioga had a 12-7 advantage in shots-on-goal, and both teams had three corner kicks.

Jake Browne had four saves in net for the Tigers.

Tioga, now 2-7, hosts O-M under the lights at Haggerty Field. Game time is 7 p.m.
