VALLEY SPORTS REPORT: ATHENS' BRONSON, COOPER EARN 'ATHLETE OF THE WEEK' HONORS (2022-09-25)

THE VALLEY — Athens sophomore Sara Bronson turned in a pair of key performances, and  junior Evan Cooper turned in a career-best round, and are the Valley Sports Report’s “Athletes of the Week” for the week ending Sept. 24.

ATHENS’ BRONSON IS GIRLS’ “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”

Bronson had a pretty good week, leading Athens to a win Tuesday over Troy, which puts them in the driver’s seat to win the NTL Large School Championship.

On Saturday, Bronson finished third at the rugged Owego Cross Country Invitational, clocking in with a time of 19:27.3.

Honorable Mentions are Waverly’s Michaela Lauper, and Brilynn Belles, and Athens’ Ally Thoman and Emma Bronson.

ATHENS’ EVAN COOPER IS BOYS’ “ATHLETE OF WEEK”

Cooper shot a career-best round of 74 on the par-71 course at the Towanda Country Club. He had two birdies, and nine pars.

Cooper, who leads the NTL with a 79.83 scoring average, led the Wildcats to a league title.

Honorable mentions are: Waverly’s Joey Tomasso, Jay Pipher, and Griff Schillmoeller, Athens’ Marco Quiros, and Tioga’s Valentino Rossi.
