COLLEGE WRESTLING: TIOGA GRAD WORTHING FINISHES SECOND AT CLARION OPEN AFTER MEDICAL FORFEIT IN FINALS (2022-11-07)

John Worthing, a redshirt sophomore on the Division I Clarion wrestling team, went 4-0 here over the weekend at the Clarion Open in Tippin Gymnasium before sustaining an injury and issuing a medical forfeit in the finals of the 174-pound bracket.
In his opening match, Worthing, the top seed, built a 14-2 lead over Kent State’s Sean Billups before registering the fall at the final horn.
In the round-of-16, Worthing was taken down in the opening seconds of the bout, but rallied to take a 3-2 lead at the end of the first period. He scored a takedown late in the third period to seal a 6-3 win over Pitt’s Carson Miller.
In the quarterfinals, Worthing scored an early takedown and worked for a pin of Pitt-Johnstown’s Jacob Sabol in 1:58.
Worthing continued his pin parade in the semifinals, registering a fall of Bucknell’s Sam Barnes in 1:25.
Worthing’s day came to an end due an injury, and Edinboro’s Jared McGill won the 174-pound title via a medial forfeit.
On Oct. 27, Worthing won the 174-pound spot with a pin of freshman Suds Dueler.
Clarion opens dual action Nov. 11 at Rutgers.
