IAC GIRLS SOCCER: WAVERLY'S KENNEDY NAMED DIVISIONAL CO-MVP; SEVEN OTHERS EARN ALL-STAR HONORS (2022-11-08)

Valley Sports Report
WAVERLY — Waverly senior Kennedy Westbrook has been named IAC South Large School co-Most Valuable Player in recent voting by the league’s coaches, while seven of her teammates earned first- and second-team all-star honors.

A speedy, physical, all-around player, Westbrook scored 17 goals, and dished out eight assists in leading the Lady Wolverines to the Section IV, Class B semifinals, and a 13-2-1 record.

Westbrook, who had 50 career goals, played sweeper the majority of the time this  season, but saw time on all three lines.

She has committed to play at Division I NJIT next fall.

Newark Valley midfielder Emma Miller was also named co-MVP.

FIRST TEAM
Forwards
Lea VanAllen, junior, Waverly:
A proven finisher with a strong leg, VanAllen scored 12 goals, including the 50th of her career, and had three assists.

She scored 17 seconds into the game in Waverly’s 1-0 win over Lansing in the IAC Large School championship game.

Also named first-team forward was: Newark Valley senior Kathryn Simmons.

Midfielders
Makenzie Olmsted, 8th-grader, Waverly:
Possessing a high soccer IQ, and a non-stop motor, Olmsted had five assists this season, including one assist in each of her first three varsity games this season.

She scored the game-clinching PK in Waverly’s shootout win over Lansing in the Section IV, Class B quarterfinals.

Also named first-team in the midfield were: Notre Dame 8th-grader MK Young, and Newark Valley señor Isabella Shiel.

Defense
Paige Robinson, junior, Waverly:
A strong defender with good speed and physicality, Robinson was the anchor of a stingy Waverly defense.

Also named first-team defense were: Notre Dame senior Ella Chicone and Notre Dame freshman Elle Greene.

Goalkeepers
Named first-team keepers were: Newark Valley senior Kylee Carrier, and SVEC senior Kara Morse.

SECOND TEAM
Forwards
Kiley Stillman, sophomore, Waverly:
A speedy attacker with a nose for the goal, Stillman had dive goals and three assists.

Addison Westbrook, sophomore, Waverly:
A heady player, Addison Westbrook often flies under the radar, but ended the season with five goals and three assists.

Also named second-team forward was: SVEC senior Jessica Wells.

Midfielders
Lauren Gorsline, 8th-grader, Waverly:
A speedy newcomer with a high soccer IQ, Gorsline scored two goals and dished out six assists, while playing on all three lines at one time or another third season.

Also named second-team in the midfield were: Notre Dame sophomore McKenna Keogh, and Newark Valley freshman Aubrey Kwiatkowski.

Defense
Claire Clonch, freshman, Waverly:
A strong and smart defender, Clonch finished the season as goal keeper after an injury to starter Lea Cole.

Also named second-team on defense were: Notre Dame freshman Ozzie Griffen, Newark Valley senior Clara McCloskey, and Newark Valley sophomore Adrianna Finta.

Goalkeeper
Notre Dame senior Shannon Maloney.

Honorable Mention
Olivia Robinson, junior, Waverly.
