WAVERLY — Senior Zach Vanderpool banged out a monster 700 series, and freshmen Derek Johnson and Tristan Campbell each rolled 600 series to lead Waverly to a sweep of first-place Newark Valley here Tuesday afternoon, while the Lady Wolverines won a 3-1 decision in IAC bowling action at the Valley Bowling Center.

BOYS
Waverly 4, Newark Valley 0

Vanderpool rolled a 762 series on games of 258, 237, and 267, while Johnson fired a 682 on games of 232, 211, and 239, and Campbell shot a 638 on games of 200, 215, and 223.

Waverly won the first game 986-936, but the next two games were not as close as the Wolverines won by scores of 1,065-975, and 1,067-860 for a total-pinfall win of 3,118 to 2,771.

The sweep vaults Waverly into first place with a record of 25-3, while Newark Valley falls to 26-6.

Senior Mike Cole had a 561 for Waverly, including games of 215 and 200, while junior Carter Hayes had a 471, and junior Trenton Sindoni added a 465.

Senior Landyn Gunderson shot a 545 for the Wolverines in reserve.

John Fiacco led Newark Valley with a 619 series, and Owen Sails added a 568.

GIRLS
Waverly 3, Newark Valley 1

Newark Valley won the first game, but Waverly rallied for a 3-1 win.

The Lady Cardinals edged Waverly by seven pins in the first game (689-682), but the Lady Wolverines returned the favor in the third game, winning by six pins (690-684). In between Waverly rolled to an 809-636 win to capture the team-title point 2,181 to 2,009.

Senior Shantilly Decker led Waverly with a 509 series, while senior Victoria Housekncht had a 477, and 7th-grader Karis Hayes had a 446.

Sophomore Serenity Conklin added a 406 for the Lady Wolverines, and 8th-grader Emily Houseknecht tacked on a 343.

Alyssa Bowen led Newark Valley with a 473, and Rachel Hartman added a 457.

Waverly improves to 23-5 on the season.

The Wolverines return to action Thursday when they host Notre Dame.
