IAC BOWLING: VANDERPOOL PACES WAVERLY IN SWEEP OF WATKINS GLEN; LADY WOLVERINES PULL OUT 3-1 WIN (2023-01-17)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — Senior Zach Vanderpool rolled a 700 series, and two of his teammates — senior Ashton Pritchard and freshman Derek Johnson — shot 600 series to lead Waverly to a lopsided sweep of Watkins Glen, while the Lady Wolverines pulled out a tightly-contested, 3-1, decision here Tuesday afternoon in IAC Large School Division bowling action at the Valley Bowling Center.
BOYS
Waverly 4, Watkins Glen 0The Wolverines topped 1,000 in each game on its way to a 3,187 to 2,488 total-pinfall victory in the sweep.
Vanderpool banged out a 721 on games of 238, 235, and 248, while Johnson fired a 664 series on games of 246, 193, and 225, and Pritchard shot a 652 on games of 194, 236, and 222.
Junior Trenton Sindoni had a 571, including a 208 in the second game, while freshman Tristan Campbell added a 557 series, and senior Mike Cole tacked on a 532, including a 212 in the second game.
Senior Landyn Gunderson shot a 615 in reserve including games of 219 and 243.
Mikel Cody led Watkins Glen with a 582 series.
The Wolverines improve to 45-3 on the season.
GIRLS
Waverly 3, Watkins Glen 1Waverly won the first game 818-780, but Watkins Glen bounced back to win the second game 894-833. Waverly re-grouped and won the third game 796-760 to pull out the total-pinfall point by 13 pins — 2,447 to 2,434.
Junior Rachel Houseknecht led waverly with a 543 series, while senior Shantilly Decker had a 532, and senior Victoria Houseknecht had a 484.
Sophomore Serenity Conklin shot a 468 for the Lady Wolverines, while 7th-grader Karis Hayes added a 392, and 8th-grader Emily Houseknecht tacked on a 336.
Katie Cook led Watkins Glen with a 531 series, and Maisie Robertson added a 517 series.
The Lady Wolverines improve to 39-9 on the season.
Waverly returns to action Thursday afternoon at Newark Valley.
