IAC JV BOYS BASKETBALL: FAST START CARRIES UNBEATEN WAVERLY TO 68-34 WIN OVER WHITNEY POINT (2023-01-20)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY — Waverly built a 10-point lead in the first quarter, then blew the game wide-open in the second quarter on its way to a 68-34 win over Whitney Point here Thursday night in IAC Large School boys basketball crossover action.
Bryce LaForest knocked down a trio of 3-pointers for nine points in the first quarter, and Ben Shaw added five points, including a 3-ball, as Waverly jumped out to a 16-6 lead after the first eight minutes.
LaForest pumped in 17 points, including a 3-pointer, in the second quarter, and Shaw added four points to fuel a 27-12 blitz that gave the junior Wolverines a 43-18 lead heading into the halftime intermission.
LaForest led Waverly with a career-high 28 points, three steals, and two assists, while Shaw had 11 points and three assists, and Lincoln Sharpsteen scored seven points.
Peyton Robinson had five points, three steals, and two assists in the win, while Carson Rockwell had four points and eight rebounds, Jerry Carnrike had four points and four rebounds, Ronin Ault added four rebounds and three assists, and J.T. Williams had four boards and two assists.
Waverly, now 11-0, returns to action Jan. 27 at Trumansburg.
