IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: WESTBROOK, BIG FIRST QUARTER PROPELS WAVERLY IN 76-16 ROUT OF WHITNEY POINT (2023-01-20)
Valley Sports ReportWHITNEY POINT — Waverly raced out to a 31-point first-quarter lead, and cruised to a 76-16 romp over Whitney Point here Friday night in IAC Large School girls basketball crossover action.
Senior Kennedy Westbrook pumped in 16 points in the first quarter, while 8th-grader Ryleigh Judson had eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers, and junior Paige Robinson added five points, including a 3-bal, to fuel a 34-3 blitz in the first eight minutes.
Kennedy Westbrook scored 11 more points, including her only 3-pointer of the game, in the second quarter, and Judson added another 3-ball in a 16-2 run that gave the Lady Wolverines a 50-5 lead at the half.
Waverly outscored Whitney Point, 26-11, in the second half, with Kennedy Westbrook (eight) and Judson (five) combining to score half of them.
Kennedy Westbrook, who was 10 of 12 from the free throw line, tossed in a career-high 35 points, while Judson scored 16, Robinson had eight, and sophomore Addison Westbrook, junior Ashlen Croft, and junior Peyton Shaw chipped in with four points apiece.
Waverly, now 11-3, returns to action Feb. 1 when it hosts Notre Dame.
