IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: GROTON CRUISES TO 54-17 WIN OVER TIOGA (22 PHOTOS) (2023-01-20)
Valley Sports ReportTIOGA CENTER — Groton scoreD the first 13 points of the game, and coasted to a 54-17 win over Tioga here Friday night in IAC Small School girls basketball crossover action.
With Groton up 13-0, senior Reese Howey put the Lady Tigers on the board with a free throw with 4 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
Howey also scored Tioga’s first field goal in the opening moments of the second quarter to close the gap to 13-3, but Groton closed out the stanza with a 16-4 run to take a 29-7 lead into the halftime intermission.
The Lady Indians outscored Tioga, 25-10, in the second half.
Howey led Tioga with seven points, three rebounds, and five blocked shots, while junior Lily Mesler added four points and one assist, and Kaitlyn Vasey-Hunt pulled down five rebounds.
Elizabeth Dykeman led Groton with 24 points, and Katelyn Allen added seven.
Tioga, now 1-13, returns to action Thursday when it hosts Marathon.
