NEW YORK STATE WRESTLING: TIOGA'S SINDONI, WAVERLY LaFOREST TOP SEEDS AT INAUGURAL GIRLS STATE INVITATIONAL (2023-01-24)

SYRACUSE - Tioga senior Emily Sindoni, and Waverly junior Mackenzie LaForest will be top seeded Friday for the inaugural New York State Girls Wrestling Invitational here at the SRC Arena on the campus of Onondaga Community College.

Sindoni, the top-ranked 126-pounder in the nation, bumped up to 132 pounds, and will square off with North Rose Wolcott’s Isabell McLouth in the opening round.

The second seed in the 132-pound bracket is highly-touted Zoey Griffith, a sophomore from Gouverneur.

LaForest is the top seed in the 235-pound bracket, and will face Niskayuna-Schenectady senior Briana Newton.

There are four other Valley girls competing for state titles Friday.

At 100 pounds, Waverly 8th-grader Abby Sickler will take on Niagara-Wheatfield 7th-grader Gabriella Barone in the opening round.

At 152 pounds, Waverly freshman Elona Holmes will face Ward-Melville senior Juliana Vera in the opening round.

At 165 pounds, Tioga 7th-grader Kyah Nelson is the second seed, and will square off with Niagara-Wheatfield senior Gianna Scirri in the opening round.

At 185 pounds,
Waverly freshman Elizabeth Robinson will face top-seeded Sophie Pollack, a senior from Canandaigua Academy, in the opening round.

Wrestling action is slated to begin at 1 p.m., with the semifinals slated for 5:15, and the championship round set for 6:45 p.m.
