NEW YORK STATE WRESTLING: DIVISION 2 STATE DUALS SET FOR SATURDAY — A BRIEF LOOK AT ALL 12 TEAMS (2023-01-26)

SYRACUSE — The New York State Division 2 Duals are set for Saturday here at the SRC Arena, located on the campus of Onondaga Community College, with defending champ Tioga the top seed.

Last year’s runner-up, Canisteo-Greenwood (34-2), is seeded third, with Section III champ Central Valley Academy (25-1) the second seed.

The only meeting between the top three seeds this season saw, CVA top C-G, 36-34. C-G’s other loss this season was to Monroe-Woodbury, 41-19, at the Stephens Classic in Horseheads.

CVA’s lone loss was to Division I Ballston Spa, 36-30.

According to New York Wrestling News, Tioga, CVA and C-G are top-three ranked teams in the state in Division 2.

Pool action is set to begin at 9 a.m., with the semifinals scheduled for 2:30 p.m., and the finals set for 5 p.m.

Here’s a look at each team in Saturday’s state duals:

MAT #5
Defending state duals champion Tioga (9-0) is the top seed, and will have eighth-seeded Chautauqua Lake (20-2), which is ranked fourth in the state, and unseeded Cobleskill-Richmondville (7-0), which is ranked 13th, in its pool.

Tioga’s top wrestlers (by record) are: junior Ousmane Duncanson (23-0 at 160 pounds), junior Gianni Silvestri (28-1 at 126), junior Caden Bellis (19-2 at 138), freshman Jayden Duncanson (27-3 at 118), junior Josh Roe (28-6 at 132), freshman Logan Bellis (27-6 at 102), junior Drew Macumber (23-5) at 132), junior Levi Bellis (25-7 at 126), junior Deakon Bailey (18-8 at 126),  freshman Kaydin Cole (16-10 at 102), sophomore Tate Macauley (15-13 at 215 or 285), and senior Jack Woodcock (10-7 at 145 / 152).

Cobleskill-Richmondville’s top wrestlers (by record) are: 8th-grader Ashtyn Haley (23-4 at 110), freshman Liam English (23-4 at 118 / 126), 8th-grader Thandon Bensink (25-11 at 110), 8th-grader Gavin Burchanowski (21-10 at 102), senior Luke Yorke (24-5 at 138), sophomore Henry Cyber (20-4 at 152), freshman Gabe English (16-5 at 118), senior Luke Pryor (17-7 at 189), sophomore Dom Scolaro (18-12 at 145), and sophomore Carlos Torres (15-11 at 215).

Seaford (9-4), honorable mention in the state rankings, is the fourth seed, and will have fifth-seeded Gouverneur (8-2), ranked eighth in the state, and unseeded Saugerties (19-5), ranked 25th, in its pool.

Seaford’s top wrestlers (by record) are: senior Jack Godoy (15-2 at 138), senior Aidan Lukas (22-10 at 172), senior Max Addiego (20-11 at 152 / 160), 7th-grader Joel Diaz (15-9 at 102), freshman Connor Murphy (13-8 at 102), and junior Ashley Diaz (18-15 at 118).

Gouverneur’s top wrestlers (by record) are: senior Vandavian Way (31-2 at 152), junior Drew Gates (25-7 at 160), freshman James Minckler (25-7 at 110), junior Hunter Mashaw (24-9 at 145), 8th-grader Tyler Baer (21-11 at 126), 8th-grader Paul Minckler (20-12 at 102), and sophomore Zoe Griffith (15-8 at 132).
