NTL BOYS BASKETBALL: HUBBARD POURS IN SCHOOL-RECORD 55 POINTS, PELLICANO NOTCHES TRIPLE-DOUBLE IN SAYRE'S ROUT OF WILLIAMSON (2023-01-27)

Valley Sports Report
TIOGA JUNCTION, Pa. — Senior Jackson Hubbard poured in a school-record 55 points, and sophomore Nick Pellicano recorded a triple-double to lead Sayre in a 94-18 rout of Williamson here Thursday night in NTL Small School boys basketball actIon.

With the win, Sayre improves to 5-1 in NTL Small School Division play, and lead North Penn-Liberty, and Canton — both 4-2 — by 1 game in the standings.

“Tonight was another piece of the puzzle to help us on this final stretch toward controlling the Small School Division,” said first-year Sayre coach Jon Ward.

“Our main focus for the game was to play together and actively look to set each other up and we did just that,” noted Ward. “(Nick) Pellicano had a triple-double with 10 assists, and (Zach) Garrity had 10 assists as well.

“Jackson (Hubbard) had a historic game, breaking our school record,” continued Ward. “He did so extremely efficiently and in a way that was through the flow of the game, something that we’ve been preaching to him all year long when it comes to his offense. His defense was also stellar, and he didn’t miss when it came to finishing at the rim.

“I’m super-proud all around, but we still have work to do to lock down Small School,” added Ward.
Hubbard pumped in 18 points in the first quarter, and sophomore Nick Pellicano added eight points as Sayre raced out to a 29-4 lead after the first eight minutes.

Hubbard added 13 more points in the second quarter, and Theo Molina added a 3-pointer to fuel a 22-4 blitz that pushed the Redskin lead to 51-8 at the half.

Hubbard tossed in 16 more points in the third quarter, and Carter Bleiler canned a 3-pointer in Sayre’s 24-4 run in the third quarter to extend the lead to 75-12.

Hubbard finished off his night with eight points in the fourth quarter, and Bleiler knocked down another 3-pointer in a 19-6 game-closing run.

Hubbard, who had three 3-pointer in his 55-point tally, also had five rebounds, six assists, and eight steals, while Pellicano had 14 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, and Garrity added seven rebounds and four steals to his 10 assists.

Sophomore Hudson Trump had eight points and nine rebounds in the win, while Bleiler scored six points, Ryan Ressler chipped in with four points, and four rebounds, senior Will Trump hauled down six rebounds, Wes Kelsey grabbed five board, and sophomore Michael Griffin and freshman Karter Green each had four rebounds.

The Redskins, now 8-9, travel to Blue Ridge for a Saturday matinee game. They dropped an 86-70 decision to the Red Raiders in the opening weekend of the season at the Bradford-Susquehanna Counties Challenge.

“We play Blue Ridge again Saturday, a game that will really really show how much we have improved since the beginning of the season,” said Ward.
