SECTION IV GIRLS BOWLING: WAVERLY PLACES THIRD AT CLASS C CHAMPIONSHIPS (2023-02-18)

VESTAL - Waverly used balanced scoring to finish third here Friday afternoon at Section IV, Class C Championships at Midway Lanes.

Windsor won the team title with a three-game set of 2,711, edging out runner-up Union Springs / Port Byron (2,687) by 24 pins. Waverly tallied 2,508 pins, with Watkins Glen placing fourth at 2,440, and Greene-Oxford was fifth at 2,432.

Junior Rachel Houseknecht led the Lady Wolverines with a 551 series, including a 213 in the third game, and sophomore Serenity Conklin shot a 548, including a 203 in the second game.

Senior Victoria Houseknecht rolled a 520 series, while senior Shantilly Decker had a 515, and 7th-grader Karis Hayes added a 374.

Waverly opened with a 786 in the first game, led by a 179 by Rachel Houseknecht, and a 175 by Victoria Houseknecht, and followed it up with an 833 in the second game, with Conklin leading the way with a 203, and Victoria Houseknecht adding a 197.

The Lady Wolverines finished the day with their best game, an 889, led by Rachel Houseknecht 213, and Decker’s 186.

Rachel Houseknecht and Decker will compete in the Section IV State Qualifier next Saturday at the Valley Bowling Center.
