SECTION IV BOYS BOWLING: VANDERPOOL WINS INDIVIDUAL GOLD AT CLASS C CHAMPIONSHIPS; LEADS WAVERLY TO TEAM TITLE (2 PHOTOS) (2023-02-18)

VESTAL —Senior Zach Vanderpool banged out a 706 series, which was good for individual gold, and junior Trenton Sindoni added a 600 series to lead Waverly to the team title here Saturday morning at the Section IV, Class C Championships at Midway Lanes.

“Overall, it was just a complete team effort,” said Waverly coach Derek Bowman.

“I’m proud of Zach (Vanderpool), he has been a fantastic leader on the team — it’s almost like having another coach on the team,” noted Bowman. “He bowled tremendous all week in practice, I’m really happy for him.

“And Trenton (Sindoni) has been bowling really well the past few weeks. We kind of saw it coming in practice.

“I thought we did a good job when people struggled or weren’t on their game, of others picking them up,” added Bowman. “Michael Cole stepped up in game two, I was happy really happy with that.”

The Wolverines had a three-game set of 2,914 to edge out runner-up Sidney (2,883) by 31 pins. Susquehanna Valley was third at 2,805, Edison was fourth at 2,799, and Newark Valley was fifth at 2,794.

Vanderpool banged out a 706 series on games of 233, 246, and 227 to lead the Wolverines, while junior Trenton Sindoni rolled a 611 series on games of 178, 227, and 206.

Freshman Derek Johnson shot a 563 series, including a 233, and senior Ashton Pritchard had a 542, including a 214, while senior Mike Cole shot a two-game set of 341, and freshman Tristan Campbell rolled a 151 game.

The Wolverines rolled a 948 in the first game, with Vanderpool and Johnson each knocking out games of 233, then rolled their best game of the day with a 1,012, with Vanderpool’s 246, Sindoni’s 227, and Pritchard’s 214 leading the way.

Waverly finished up with a 954, led by Vanderpool’s 227, and Sindoni’s 206.

Waverly will bowl in the Section IV State Qualifier Friday morning at the Valley Bowling Center.
