SECTION IV GIRLS BOWLING: WAVERLY'S DECKER FINISHES EIGHTH AT STATE QUALIFIER (2023-02-26)
Valley Sports ReportWAVERLY - Waverly senior Shantilly Decker narrowly missed a trip to States Saturday at the Section IV, Division 2 girls bowling state qualifier here at the Valley Bowling Center.
With the top six bowlers not on the Section IV champion Union Springs / Port Byron team qualifying for the Section IV all-star team at States, Decker finished eighth just 89 pins behind sixth-place finisher Janelle Marsh of SVEC.
Decker bowled a nine-game set of 1,740 — a 193.33 average, including a 515 series at last week’s Class C Championships.
On Saturday, Decker rolled a 601 series, on games of 246, 187, and 168, in the morning session, and followed it up with a 624, on games of 195, 201, and 228, in the afternoon.
Junior Rachel Houseknecht finished 21st in the Division 2 field with a nine-game set of 1,584 — a 176.0 average.
Houseknecht, who shot a 551 last week, rolled a 512 Saturday morning, and a 521 in the afternoon.
US / PB’s Colleen Jump won Division 2 individual gold with a nine-game set of 2,012 (223.56 average), while Maine-Endwell’s Rylee Roe was second with a 1,948 (216.44), and Windsor’s Alex Barton was third with an 1,884 (209.33).
