COLLEGE WRESTLING: ATHENS GRAD BRADLEY WINS FIRST BOUT AT D-III CHAMPIONSHIPS, FALLS IN SECOND; ALIVE IN WRESTLEBACKS (8 PHOTOS) (2023-03-10)

Valley Sports Report
ROANOKE, Va. - Athens grad Gavin Bradley, a freshman on the Castleton wrestling team, won his first match Friday here at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships, but lost to the second seed in his next bout, and is alive in the consolation bracket.

Bradley wrestled in the first bout of the day at the D-III championships, and forged a 7-4 decision over Delaware Valley’s Jacob Blair.

Bradley scored a takedown midway through the first period, and rode Blair for the final 86 seconds to take a 2-0 lead after the first three minutes.

Bradley registered a takedown off the second-period whistle, and rode top again for 28 seconds. After Blair recorded a takedown, Bradley scored a quick escape to take a 4-2 lead, which he carried into the final two minutes.

Blair scored an escape early in the third period to trim the deficit to 4-3, but Bradley registered a takedown moments later to extend his lead to 6-3.

Bradley rode top for 49 seconds before a Blair escape closed the gap to 6-4, but Bradley fended off takedown attempts over the final 38 seconds. He was awarded a riding-time point for the 7-4 win.

In the round-of-16, Bradley lost via fall in 1:57 to second-seeded Jacob Decatur of Baldwin-Wallace University.

Blair scored a quick takedown to start the match. After a Bradley escape, Blair scored another takedown, then ran an arm bar for the fall.

Bradley will face Luc Valdez if Wisconsin-Oshkosh in the first round of wrestlebacks Friday evening.
