SECTION IV FOOTBALL: DEFENDING SECTION CHAMPS — WAVERLY, TIOGA — TO SQUARE OFF IN WEEK 1 (2023-03-10)
Valley Sports ReportTHE VALLEY — The long-awaited 2023 Section IV football schedules have been released, and the much-anticipated match-up of Section IV champs — Waverly and Tioga — is indeed a done deal, and set for Week 1 at Memorial Stadium.
It’s not likely to be the season-opener for either team, however, as both teams are looking for Week Zero opponents.
If the Tigers can land a Week Zero opponent, they would likely christen their new turf at Haggerty Field. Otherwise, they’ll have to wait for Week 2 against Harpursville / Afton.
The Wolverines will alternate their first six games home and away, until playing back-to-back games on the road in Week 6 and 7. Their biggest road game of the season will be Week 4 at Chenango Forks.
Waverly's other big home game will be a non-divisional contest against Class AA Elmira in Week 3.
After Week Zero, Tioga will play three of its next four games on the road, before finishing the regular season with three of four games at home.
The biggest divisional game of the season is likely to be its Week 5 match-up against SVEC, which will be at Haggerty Field.
