COLLEGE WRESTLING: TIOGA GRAD LAMB FALLS ONE WIN SHY OF ALL-AMERICAN REPEAT (8 PHOTOS) (2023-03-10)

Valley Sports Report
ROANOAKE, Va. - Tioga grad Austin Lamb, a senior on the RIT wrestling team, saw his collegiate career come to a close one win shy of repeating as an All-American here Friday night, following a pair of losses at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships.

Lamb, who placed eighth last year, won his first bout of the day — a 5-3 decision over Washington & Lee’s Harrison Kelly, to advance to the quarterfinals and a match-up against third-seeded Noah Leisgang of Wisconsin-Lacrosse.

After a scoreless first period, Leisgang registered an escape just 10 seconds into the second period. The duo remanned on their feet the remainder of the period.

Leisgang was able to ride Lamb until the final 10 seconds, securing a riding-time point to pull out a 2-1 decision.

In his first consolation bracket match, Lamb faced fourth-seeded Nathan Fuller of Wartsburg College, who was upset in the opening round. Fuller pulled out a 4-3 win.

After a scoreless first period, Lamb needed just 12 seconds for an escape in the second period, but Fuller answered with a takedown, and rode out the final 82 seconds of the period to take a 2-1 lead into the final two minutes.

Fuller extended his lead to 3-1 with an escape about 40 seconds into the third period, but Lamb countered with a takedown with 41 seconds left to tie the bout at 3-3.

Just 11 seconds later, Fuller escaped to take a 4-3 lead, then fended off Lamb’s advances for the final 30 seconds to pull out the win.

Lamb wraps up his season with an 18-4 record.
