Valley Sports Report
FORT MYERS, Fla. — Sayre grad Brayden Horton, a freshman on the Division I Liberty baseball team, has started four straight games, collecting his first collegiate home run and first multi-hit game in the process.

On Sunday, Horton was 1-for-3 with his first round-tripper — a solo shot — in a 7-2 loss to nationally-ranked Florida Gulf Coast, which is ranked 20th.

On Saturday, in a 9-7 win over Florida Gulf Coast, Horton stroked three singles in five at-bats, and collected four RBI.

In the second game of the doubleheader Saturday, Horton was 0-for-3, but walked twice, scored one run, and had one RBI.

Horton earned his first start, in left field, on March 11th in the first game of a doubleheader against nationally-ranked East Carolina (ranked 11th). He was 1-for-4 in a 10-2 loss.

Horton has started five of the nine games he’s played in. He’s hitting .300 (6 hits in 20 ABs) with one triple, one home run, three runs scored, and six RBI. He has a team-high .550 slugging percentage, and has walked six times for a .462 on-base percentage.

Defensively, he has handled 25 chances without an error, playing first base and the corner outfield different positions.

The Flames, now 8-11, return to action Wednesday at Old Dominion.
