ON TAP TODAY: SPRING SEASON GETS UNDER WAY — SAYRE SOFTBALL HAS LONE HOME GAME (2023-03-24)

THE VALLEY — The 2023 spring sports season gets underway Friday afternoon with the Sayre softball team playing the first game of the season in the Valley, and the Athens baseball and softball teams on road at Cowanesque Valley.

BASEBALL
Athens at Cowanesque Valley, 4:30 p.m.: The Wildcats are coming off a 12-9 season in 2022, which included a 5-5 mark in the NTL Large School Division, while the Indians were 11-10, including a 4-4 record in the Small School Division.

Last year, Athens won the season-opener, 2-1, on March 25.

SOFTBALL
Wyalusing at Sayre, 4:30 p.m.: The Lady Redskins are coming off an 0-18 season that included an 0-8 mark int he NTL Small School Division, while the Lady Rams won the Large School Division with an 8-2 record in the division, and a 13-6 overall mark.

Last year, Wyalusing rolled to an 18-2 season-opening win on March 25.

Athens at Cowanesque Valley, 4:30 p.m.: The Lady Wildcats posted a 9-11 record in 2022, which included a 4-6 mark in the Large School Division, while the Lady Indians were 18-6 overall, and finished second in the Small School Division with a 6-2 record.

Last year, Cowanesque Valley cruised to a 12-2 season-opening win on March 25.
