COLLEGE SOFTBALL: FORMER ATHENS TEAMMATES — BENNETT, SULLIVAN — SQUARE OFF (2023-03-25)

Valley Sports Report
WILKES-BARRE — Athens grads and former battery mates Megan Bennett, a junior pitcher on the Alfred University softball team, and Harley Sullivan, a sophomore catcher at King’s College, squared off against each other here Wednesday afternoon in non-league softball action.

Bennett earned her first win of the season in the first game of the twinbill. She allowed one run on eight hits, while striking out seven and walking none in a 3-1 victory.

Sullivan rapped a double in three at-bats, and scored King’s lone run in the loss. She also threw out Alfred’s top base-stealer twice attempting to steal second base.

In the nightcap, Sullivan was 0-for-2 and was hit by a pitch in the Monarchs’ 1-0 win.

On the season, Bennett is 1-3 with a 2.16 ERA. She has allowed 28 hits in 22 2/3 innings, and has 18 strikeouts without issuing a walk.

Sullivan is hitting .472 (17 hits in 36 ABs) on the season, with four doubles, one triple, 11 runs scored, and seven RBI.

Defensively, she has committed just two errors in 72 defensive chances for a .972 fielding percentage. She has thrown out three would-be base-stealers, and allowed just one passed ball.

King’s College, now 7-5, returns to action Sunday when it hosts Stockton University in a doubleheader, while Alfred University, now 2-6, hosts Alfred State Sunday.
