ALBANY — Waverly grad Wendi Hammond, a senior on the Division I University of Albany softball team, has racked up three wins in her last three appearances, and recorded multi-hit games at the plate in her last two.

Hammond, who tossed back-to-back shutouts LIU and Georgetown earlier in March, picked up wins on consecutive days against Lafayette last week, and pitched a one-hitter in a win at Siena Wednesday.

On March 18, Hammond closed out the game with three innings of two-hit scoreless relief in an 8-6 win over Lafayette. She struck out two and walked one.

The next day, Hammond gave up three runs on four hits in three innings. She struck out one and walked none in a 16-4 five-inning win over Lafayette. At the plate, Hammond singled twice, stole her first base of the season, and scored two runs.

On Wednesday, Hammond allowed one run on one hit in a complete-game, seven-inning effort. She struck out three and walked one in a 4-1 win over Siena College in the first game of a doubleheader. At the plate, she tripled and singled, and scored one run.

On the season, Hammond has a 6-4 record with a 2.32 ERA. She has allowed 55 hits in 54 1/3 innings, while striking out 28 and walking 14.

At the plate, Hammond is hitting .280 (7 hits in 25 ABs) with one triple, four runs scored, four runs scored, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Albany, now 7-8, returns to action Sunday in a doubleheader at home against UMass-Lowell.
